Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a Lactation Consultant to join the Mother Baby Unit. The Lactation Consultant will individualize and prioritize care to meet the physical and emotional needs of the breastfeeding mother and infant.1.\tThe Lactation Consultant will individualize and prioritize care to meet the physical and emotional needs of the breastfeeding mother and infant. o\tObtain a pregnancy and birth history o\tObtain a lactation and breastfeeding history, past and present o\tMake rounds on all in-patient breastfeeding couples o\tAssess the dynamics of the breastfeeding process2.\tThe Lactation Consultant will help breastfeeding women and their families achieve their own breastfeeding goals. o\tObtain mothers goals o\tAnswer mothers questions o\tAssess mothers support networkOTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1.\tThe Lactation Consultant will work in collaboration with the infants and mothers health care provider(s). o\tMaintain communication with nursing staff o\tMaintain communication with physician(s) o\tParticipate in interdisciplinary plan of care2.\tThe Lactation Consultant will be responsible for follow-up phone calls to all breastfeeding mothers after discharge. o\tCalls will be placed to mother at one month after discharge unless earlier follow-up is needed at the time of discharge o\tIncoming phone calls will be returned within 24-36 hours3.\tThe Lactation Consultant will be responsible for breastfeeding education of other health care professionals. o\tIn-services to staff quarterly o\tIn-services to new staff nurses upon hiring to Maternal-Child Health Services o\tAssist Clinical Educator with completion of annual breastfeeding competencies for Maternal-Child Health staff o\tCommunication to staff of breastfeeding policy changes o\tMaintaining staff current on new trends and breastfeeding best practices4.\tThe Lactation Consultant will monitor and evaluate performance of the Lactation Services provided. o\tComplete monthly statistical reports for Lactation Services provided o\tPresent monthly statistics to the Department of Pediatrics o\tParticipate in quality assurance and monitoring activities relevant to Lactation Services o\tIn collaboration with the Maternal-Child Health Services leadership personnel, develop and implement quality improvement initiatives for Lactation Services5.\tPerforms other duties as assigned.

Education\n•\tGraduate of an accredited school of nursing - required\n•\tBSN required or at least in pursuit\n\t\nRelated Work Experience\n•\tPrevious Lactation Consultant experience\n\nLICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS\n•\tInternational Board of Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Certification\n\n\nSPECIALIZED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS\n•\tExcellent interpersonal and communication skills\n•\tProfessionalism\n•\tLeadership qualities\n•\tA customer service orientation, a teamwork approach, flexibility, organizational and problem-solving skills\n•\tHigh level of physical strength, stamina and agility required
