General Summary StatementProvides continuing education for the OR staff. Provides education in a variety of formats based on the topic presented and the needs of learners, nursing units, and the organization. Provides continuing education for OR/Surgical Services staff with PA Nurses Contact Hours. Conducts annual critical care competency assessment sessions. Oversees staff development with the orientation program for all RNs hired into the Operating room. Mentors RN staff. Participates in hospital and nursing projects and serves on committees. Must be flexible to work on all shifts as needed. Supports new hires in all Surgical Services departments. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Development1.\tAssesses educational needs of employees in assigned areas on an ongoing basis via observation, written feedback and communication with Nurse Manager, Director, staff and hospital personnel.2.\tDevelops new programs/courses as needed and updates courses as needed.3.\tPlans programs that align with organizational goals.4.\tDevelops materials that are original and do not violate copyright and are cost appropriate for the program. Demonstrates respect for patient confidentiality when using case studies, and in the preparation of all education materials.5.\tProvides continuing education, required in-services and competency assessments for the departments as needed.6.\tProvides education as needed in a timely manner for classroom or the clinical area, based on unit needs for the patient or staff learning needs.7.\tSelects appropriate speakers (e.g. physicians, vendor, and other professional) for programs and provides program coordination and speaker support..8.\tAttains contact hours or equivalent certification for RN programs as appropriate for topic and length of program..9.\tMaintains instructor certification for AHA programs.Public Speaking & Teaching 1.\tDemonstrates the ability to effectively teach and communicate to personnel at all education and skill levels.2.\tDemonstrates the ability to use a variety of teaching methods both in the classroom and clinical environments.3.\tUses class time effectively, plans curriculum to fit within time allotted. 4.\tApplies adult learning principles.5.\tTeaches current standards of Nursing Practice and integrates current CCH Policies and Procedures into curriculum; integrates current Joint Commission and other regulating agencies standards into curriculum.6.\tDistributes course evaluations for participants to rate the Educators teaching effectiveness. Uses feedback from these evaluations in future courses.7.\tProvides œreal time unit based education for clinical needs. For example, on-unit instruction for nurses using new equipment or doing a procedure for the first time.8.\tFacilitates an environment that supports evidence based practice.9.\tMay assist staff development with teaching CPR initial and retraining courses. Orientation Program.1.\tCommunicates on an ongoing basis during the orientation period with the orientee, preceptor(s), Nurse Manager, & Director to evaluate progress and learning needs of the new employee.2.\tProvides appropriate intervention for orientee performance problems.3.\tProvides support to preceptors via Preceptor Workshops, and unit based consultations.4.\tCommunicates sensitive information appropriately.

Education Training and Experience\nBSN is required. A Masters degree in Nursing or Healthcare field is desired, but not required upon hire. Educators are encouraged to pursue a Master’s degree within 2 years of hire.\n\nAt least 5 years of clinical experience in specific area assigned is required. Experience in Staff Development is desired, but not required.\n\nMust have skills in Word Processing and use of the Internet. Must be able to do on the job training for Power Point, hospital computer systems, and the hospital patient documentation system, Soarian® Clinicals.\n\nLicensure/Certification \nCurrent Pennsylvania RN license is required. Must have CNOR certification within 2 years of hire. Must be certified in Staff Development (Nursing Professional Development), or area of clinical specialty.\nCPR Certification.
