The Research Nurses chief responsibility is to collect and submit patient outcomes data to department and to the ACS NSQIP. This is accomplished through high-quality clinical screening, data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of surgeries of interest for the department. The SCNR also works closely with the members of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified.Data Collection¢\tResponsible for the identification of surgical patients for inclusion in the program registry through the application of strict program inclusion/exclusion criteria and randomization protocol.¢\tResponsible for the reliable collection of preoperative, operative, and postoperative data components for the program through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record system.¢\tResponsible for meeting the caseload accrual requirement of 1,680 cases per year through the correct application of the programs randomization protocol.¢\tAttends weekly Morbidity and Mortality conferences to ensure reliable data collection of postoperative occurrences.¢\tDemonstrates applicability of the methodology and the reliability of definitions utilized by reviewers within the program through Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) testing.¢\tResponsible for identifying areas of streamlining and process improvement in the data collection process.¢\tDemonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the Program.ACS NSQIP.org Interaction¢\tResponsible for utilizing software applications available at the sire for data collection and analysis.¢\tResponsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into the programs website and assuring the transmission of completed data.¢\tResponsible for reviewing weekly site accrual report on the website and responding toWorks Effectively with Patients, Families, and Staff¢\tEstablishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in the Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and the Information Systems Departments whose support is necessary to the management and success of the program.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required with minimum 5 years’ experience in Healthcare and in database analysis. Minimum 3 years’ experience in inpatient surgical nursing required. Ability to interact with all members of the surgical team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.Must have ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information. Strong computer skills, spreadsheets and databases required.
